In short
- We collect what we need to run Zencut: your account, the videos you upload and what we generate from them.
- To edit your videos, their audio is transcribed and the transcript is analysed by third-party AI providers working on our behalf.
- Your content is private to your account. We don't sell your data, show ads or track you across apps and websites.
- You can delete a video or your whole account at any time from the app.
1. Who we are
Zencut (the mobile app and the website zencut.ai) is published by LIMNOS, a French simplified joint-stock company (SAS) with share capital of €1,500, registered with the Paris Trade and Companies Register under number 939 846 150, whose registered office is at 24 rue Keller, 75011 Paris, France (“Limnos”, “we”, “us”).
Limnos is the controller of the personal data described in this policy. For any question or request about your data, contact us at hello@zencut.ai.
2. The data we collect
Account data
Your email address and a unique account identifier. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we also receive the name and, for Google, the profile picture associated with that account. With Sign in with Apple you can choose to hide your email address, in which case we only receive a relay address.
Your content
The videos you choose to upload, and what we create from them to provide the service: thumbnails, the extracted audio, transcripts (the words spoken and their timing, and the detected language), suggested edits and the videos you export. We also store information about each video, such as its original file name, size and duration.
Subscription data
Whether your subscription is active and until when, and the purchase history linked to your account. Payments are processed by Apple or Google: we never receive your card or bank details.
Technical data
Technical logs needed to run and secure the service (for example your account identifier, the time of an operation and error details), and the app version and platform when the app checks for updates. The app does not use advertising identifiers.
Messages
The content of your emails if you contact us.
We do not collect your location, your contacts, or data from your camera or microphone. The app only accesses your photo library when you choose a video to upload, and only the video you select is sent to us.
3. How we use it, and why
- To provide Zencut: create and manage your account, store your videos, transcribe them, suggest edits and produce your exports. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you (our Terms of Use).
- To manage your subscription: check that it's active and give you access accordingly. Legal basis: performance of the contract.
- To keep the service secure and working: detect abuse, investigate errors and fix them. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure, reliable service.
- To answer you when you contact us. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in responding to your requests, or the contract when your message is about it.
- To comply with the law, for example accounting obligations or requests from authorities. Legal basis: legal obligation.
We do not sell your personal data, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not use your videos, audio or transcripts to train AI models.
4. How the AI editing works
When you upload a video, we extract its audio. The audio is sent to a third-party speech-to-text provider, which returns a transcript. The transcript is then sent to a third-party AI language model provider, which suggests which parts of the video to keep. The resulting edit is applied on our own infrastructure.
These providers act on our behalf and only receive what they need for this processing: the audio or the transcript, without your name or email address. They may keep this data for a limited period under their own data policies, for example for security and abuse monitoring.
Before your first upload, the app asks you to confirm that you agree to this processing.
5. Who we share it with
Your content is private to your account. We share personal data only with:
- Our service providers, acting on our instructions: cloud hosting and infrastructure, AI providers (speech-to-text and language model, see section 4), subscription management, and app update delivery. They are bound by contracts that require them to protect your data and use it only to provide their services to us.
- Apple and Google, when you sign in with your Apple or Google account, or buy a subscription through the App Store or Google Play. They process this data as independent controllers under their own privacy policies.
- Authorities, when required by law.
- A buyer or successor, if Limnos is involved in a merger or acquisition, under the same protections as described here.
6. International transfers
Your data is stored in the United States, and some of our providers process it there. These transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards: the European Commission's adequacy decision for companies certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. You can ask us for more information about these safeguards.
7. How long we keep it
- Account data and content: as long as your account exists. When you delete a video, it is deleted with everything created from it. When you delete your account, all your account data and content are deleted from our systems.
- Technical logs: up to 30 days.
- Subscription records: for as long as needed to manage your subscription, then as required by law (for example accounting obligations, up to 10 years).
- Emails: up to 3 years after our last exchange.
- Data processed by our AI providers: for the limited period set by their own policies (see section 4).
8. Your rights
Under the GDPR and French law, you have the right to access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its processing, receive it in a portable format, and give instructions about what happens to it after your death. You can exercise these rights by writing to hello@zencut.ai. We may ask you to confirm your identity and will answer within one month.
Deleting your account: you can delete your account and all your content at any time in the app, with “Delete account”. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel a subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play: cancel it in your store account settings.
If you believe your rights are not respected, you can lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL (www.cnil.fr), or the authority of your country.
9. Security
Data is encrypted in transit between the app and our servers. Access to your videos, transcripts and edits is restricted to your own account, and our team only accesses them when needed to operate the service or when you ask us to. No system is completely secure, but we work to protect your data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access.
10. Children
Zencut is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Data stored on your device
The app keeps some data on your device so it works quickly and stays signed in: your session, a cache of your video list and thumbnails, and the videos you export before you share them. The app does not use cookies or tracking technologies.
12. The zencut.ai website
The website does not use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers. Our hosting provider processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver and secure the pages, and the website's fonts are loaded from a third-party font service, which receives your IP address.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy, for example when we add features. We will change the date at the top of this page and, if the changes are significant, let you know in the app or by email before they apply.
